Pat Poor - Owner, Ship Ahoy

Pat and his wife Jean bought the Ship Ahoy Restaurant from Ray Remillard around 1959. They changed the name to the Land Ho because, it is rumored, the seller wanted to be paid for using the name Ship Ahoy. Along with Herman Heidi they ran the restaurant until about 1966 when they bought the Lobster Pool in Eastham. Pat passed away in 1972 at age 62.

Roland "Mel" Mayo 1910-2001

Son of Roland Mayo, whose father was Roland Mayo. Oh, and just to make genealogy easier, Mel had a son named Roland. Thanks, Mel.

Well-known local artist who painted several murals in the Southward Inn. He was most famous for his oil paintings of sailing vessels framed in lobster pot frames.

John Crosman 1898 - 1970

John Crosman was a local Orleans artist whose works are still sought after. He had a son, John, Jr. ("Jackie") who was a local commercial fisherman.

Donald Walsh and Bobby Orr

Around '78-'79, some of the Boston Bruins would come to the ice rink to give clinics and play in friendly exhibition game so here you see Bobby Orr getting Lt. Donald Walsh's autograph.

Ethel (Gibson) Mayo

Mother of Ralph, Fred, Roscoe, Harry, and Madeline. Sister of Roscoe Gibson, for whom Roscoe Mayo is named, and sister of Annie (Gibson) Raddin, wife of dentist Dr. Fred Raddin. What's wrong with the photo? She's milking the cow from the wrong side. She could have worked from the other side, but that wouldn't help the photo. Or, she could have turned the cow around.

Irving Higgins

Husband of Grace (Crowell), father of Francis and Kendall, "Eeling" through the ice on a pond in Orleans around 1950, We no longer have the ice, nor the eels, nor Irving.
